Our Partners
Pine Tree Roasters: Seattle is a coffee town. For over 35 years, Seattleites have loved Pine Tree Roasters. Located next door in funky freaky Fremont, Pine Tree Roasters is one of the oldest coffee roasters in Seattle. We partnered with Pine Tree Roasters for two reasons: They’re the best at what they do, and they treat people right while doing it. Pine Tree Roasters coffee is certified fair trade, organic, and sourced as sustainably as possible. They are not only featured in our café, but in our bar as the key ingredient in Larches Coffee Stout.

Founder
What does the resume of a brewery, vinyl, and coffee shop owner look like? For BVC owner Charlie Mopps, it may (or may not) be exactly what you’d expect. Charlie grew up in Seattle, splitting his time between working at his family’s restaurant and starting small fires with his chemistry set. After graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in biochemistry, Charlie began his career as a biophysicist, spending time around the globe as a research consultant. It was one such trip in 2018 that inspired the beginning of BVC.

“It was the beginning of my second month in the field in Costa Rica with a team researching Uroderma bilobatum, the tent-building bat. We were there to better understand their supreme echolocation. Although I was falling in love with the tremendous coffee of the region, I just couldn’t take the hot days. On one such day, when the humidity was 100%, I thought to myself, ‘I could go for a beer right now.’ That was the kernel for BVC; a place to combine and share my passion for sound, coffee, and beer with a community I love.”

Today, Charlie lives in Greenwood with his dog, Buster.
